Corrective exercise training is a type of personal training however where a Personal Trainer helps clients with general fitness goals like getting fitter, stronger, or losing weight, a Corrective Exercise Specialist analyses how your body moves in order to identify compensations, imbalances, and restrictions to ultimately help you to move better, recover faster, and function at peak efficiency.
Corrective Exercise Specialists and Physiotherapists both help clients alleviate muscle and joint pain and improve their movement capabilities. Where a Physio typically diagnoses and treats the site of a specific injury, condition, or trauma, a Corrective Exercise Specialist will work with clients before injury occurs, or after the injury has been clinically managed, to evaluate movement restrictions, imbalances, and dysfunctions with the goal of restoring and improving the way you move through exercise-based programming.
Absolutely, the people who benefit the most from corrective exercise training aren't always the ones in pain, they're the people who want to make sure they stay that way. Most dysfunction doesn't announce itself with pain or strain straight away, it builds over months or years of compensations until something finally gives so the investment now is always going to be smaller than the financial, physical, and mental cost of managing a chronic problem later. Whether you sit at a desk, train regularly, or consider yourself athletic or sports-minded, there's almost certainly something worth addressing before it becomes a problem further down the track.
It's not uncommon for Sean to speak to people who completed physio with great success only to find something broke down again once activity returned to normal levels or as underlying musculoskeletal issues continued to compound over time. Clinical rehab is typically focused on a specific site of pain which makes sense in a clinical context. But pain is often the last thing to show up, not the first. If the underlying movement pattern that caused the problem hasn't been addressed, returning to the same activities means returning to the same stresses on the same structures. Sean looks at the complete picture, the chain of compensations and the root cause of any issues not just the symptom at the end of it.
If you are booking an in-gym session you will need a membership which can be purchased here. Alternatively, Sean offers mobile sessions from Surfers Paradise Beach (Jubilee Walkway) and at select Gold Coast suburbs if you prefer to train from home.
Absolutely. Sean's training is customised based on your individual needs and you'll be made to feel right at home.
Sean comes from a pro sports background and specialises in sports specific training so can work across any discipline. Sean has worked with professional rugby and tennis players, martial artists including Brazilian Jui Jitsu practitioners, HYROX and endurance racers, sky divers, body builders, and surfers and will tailor your training to your specific goals and activities.
The first session is almost entirely assessment. Sean looks at how you move (not whether you can do something, but how you do it) plus any compensations that are occurring and what's likely driving it.
From there, Sean will advise how many times a week you should look to train and anything to work on outside of your sessions so you'll leave with a clear picture of what's going on in your body and a plan for addressing it.
It depends entirely on your individual goals or concerns, how long the pattern or compensation has been there, and how consistently you engage with the process, but most people start to notice meaningful changes in movement quality and how their body feels within four to eight weeks.
